Underwater warfare

Thales designs and delivers acoustic and communication systems and subsystems for anti-submarine warfare and anti-mine warfare. Our solutions and related services are suitable for all types of platforms: submarines, surface ships, helicopters, maritime patrol aircrafts and unmanned naval systems. 

• Anti-submarine warfare - surface ships

  

  For surface ships anti-submarine warfare missions, Thales hull-mounted and variable-depth sonars offer the highest levels of performance available today.

• Anti-submarine warfare - submarine systems

  

  Drawing on extensive experience on major conventional and nuclear-powered submarine programmes, Thales offers a complete range of state-of-the-art solutions designed to give submarines a decisive advantage in terms of detection and information, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

• Anti-submarine warfare - airborne systems

  

  Airborne ASW systems are designed to operate in conjunction with the shipborne systems and fall into two main categories: dipping sonars deployed by medium and heavy-lift helicopters, and sonobuoys with their associated acoustic data processing systems, which are operated by
  helicopters of all sizes and by Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

• Minewarfare systems

  

  Thales equips over half the world fleet of minehunting vessels with more than 300 systems in service today. Minhunting and surveillance sonars, mine avoidance sonars, influence sweeps, tactical systems and multi-influence measurement stations are just some of the many high-performance solutions available today.

• Unmanned vehicles

  

  Thales proposes a range of Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), which are able to make decisions based on the situations they encounter.

• Torpedoes homing heads

  

  Thales designs, develops and manufactures active and passive homing heads for heavyweight torpedoes, leveraging world-class know-how in sensor technologies and intelligent information processing. Packed with state-of-the-art technologies, the weapons deliver unmatched processing capacity and radiating power.

• Communications systems

  

  Thales provides Fully Integrated Communications System (FICS) and Naval Force Intranet (NFI).

• Identification and navigation systems

  

  The Thales high power long range combined interrogator transponder (CIT) and interrogator systems are compliant with all relevant standards and can be delivered or easily upgraded to include National Secure Mode or the latest military standard Mode 5 which will very shortly become a critical requirement for participation in NATO coalition operations.
