Singapore Air Show, 2 February 2010 – Thales announced today that it has signed a longterm avionics deal with Hainan Airlines, the largest privately owned Chinese airline, for the support of its Airbus A340-600 fleet.
The 6-year agreement is a component service based on standard equipment exchange. Within the scope of the Avionics-By-The-Hour (ABTH) contract, Thales will take care of all aspects of Hainan Airline’s specific A340-600 components under a single package. This includes the provision and storage of on-site components located at the main base in Haikou, access to a pool of spare parts as well as component repair on a flight-hour basis.
“We were looking for a comprehensive component support solution that would provide us a competitive alternative to spare parts investment and be compatible with cost and quality levels required today in the challenging Asian market” stated a Hainan Airlines representative. Thales’s Avionics-By-The-Hour (ABTH) programme is aimed at providing maximum value to the airline, by offering asset availability and reduced overall operating costs.
Thales’s portfolio of customised service programmes also includes Repair-By-The-Hour (RBTH) and Avionics-By-The-Hour (ABTH). Earlier this year, Thales extended its offering with Asset Management services in response to market requirements for more comprehensive and flexible solutions.
Thales already works closely with Hainan Airlines – its TopSeries in-flight entertainment (IFE) system was selected by Hainan Airlines for its Airbus A330 and Boeing B787 aircraft. The Airbus aircraft are configured with the TopSeries audio and video on-demand system throughout all classes with Thales’s 10.6” widescreen displays in first class and 8.9” widescreen displays in economy.
