Thales to supply the Land Command and Control Information Services for the NATO Command Structure

27  February  2008
After a competitive bidding process, the NATO C3 Agency has awarded Thales a contract to supply the NATO Land Command and Control Information Services (LC2IS) for the NATO Command Structure.

The first delivery is planned in July 2008.

LC2IS will provide the operational information services supporting the decision process at NATO land forces headquarters in the execution of their operational missions, collaborative working and administrative tasks. LC2IS will be deployed in the allied NATO headquarters and on theatres of operations where NATO forces are committed, to equip allied Land Component Commands and provide them with shared situational awareness, collaborative planning, and synchronised manoeuvre.

Fully integrated into the NATO Bi-Strategic Command Automated Information Systems (Bi-SC AIS) command and control infrastructure, LC2IS implements NATO interoperability standards in order to manage resources, automate reporting processes, and disseminate commander's intent between operational and tactical command and control systems deployed by allied forces throughout the theatre.
The LC2IS program is organized in 3 increments according to a spiral development process. The first increment will deliver in 2 steps an initial operational capability as soon as July 2008 and the final operational capability (FOC) will be fielded by May 2009.

Thales, lead systems integrator and C4I capability provider known for its proven references in Army C2IS for NATO members (including 4 of the 7 High Readiness Forces command posts) and framework nations, has been selected shortly after winning the competition for the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps to be armed by the British Army.

Pierre Suslenschi, VP of Thales Land & Joint Systems C²ISR systems Business Line declares : "We are pleased to be selected by the Alliance given its maturity in interoperability standards and long-standing experience in the deployment of large coalition forces . We are looking forward to deliver NATO commanders with an automated, network enabled information dominance solution to support them in the current operating environment and pave the way for battlespace digitisation."
