I graduated in chemistry, but didn't start work in that field. I was taken on by the Group in aeronautical microelectronics at Valence in southern France, and waited six years for a chance to return to my original job. One day, reading Thales Opportunités, I found a vacancy: Thales Electron Devices at Thonon wanted a chemist. I applied straight away, but the post advertised had already been filled. Fortunately another became available in electrophoresis and my application was accepted. To find my feet in this new job and new environment, I took a one-month secondment, which went well. Finding somewhere to live was another matter. Fortunately I got some efficient, specific help with accommodation from the human resources department. Even though I'm a Northern French "expat" in Savoy, I feel I've reached my goal - doing the job I trained for - thanks to mobility.
