09  September  2008
Thales, a leader in passenger entertainment systems, and Proximetry, a leader in real-time performance management software for wireless networks & applications are announcing that they are together...
... formulating a new, innovative service under the name Transmax. TransMax is the operational element of GateSyncTM, a high performance network solution developed jointly by Thales and Proximetry based on the WiMAX wireless networking standard(s). The GateSync solution is a revolutionary approach that moves data and content to and from the aircraft on a timely basis, at speeds of 25 - 50 times faster than other commercial services without human intervention on aircraft

TransMax will be dedicated to the deployment and operation of wireless data networking solutions in and around the airport environment. TransMax services will provide the end-to-end loading and offloading of data and content to commercial aircraft and extended wireless networking for other airport and tarmac-based resources.

The GateSync solution gives airlines a highly granular approach in determining the appropriate content mix, delivery interval, and priorities, all of which can be set on a "tail by tail" basis. TransMax is being formed to deploy and operate the ground based WiMAX wireless service for Thales IFE customers as well as non-IFE applications (i.e. electronic flight bag and other aircraft operational and administration applications) around the world. TransMax will offer airlines, airport authorities, and other airport and aircraft-related companies a turnkey wireless data service capable of covering the entire airport property and thus augmenting existing wireless data services.

"TransMax is the culmination of over 30 months of demonstrations, field testing and integration of wireless capabilities that are now proven," said Brad Foreman, CEO Thales Avionics, Inc. The launch of TransMax builds upon the testbed established at the San Diego International Airport, a network which is currently undergoing upgrades to address new airport applications. The TransMax business currently has three wireless test networks in operation and envisions expanding the test networks to additional airports by year-end. These networks include sites in Europe, N. America, and Asia.

Stop by the Thales booth at WAEA for a comprehensive demonstration (booth 655).
